How to apply a Vinyl Decal

Installing a vinyl sticker is easy and quick, read the guide below or watch the video at the bottom of the page.

Avoid installing your decal(s) when temperatures are below 10°C (59°F) and/or above 25°C (77°F) – this is a must!
Avoid getting your decal wet in the first 48 hours
• Avoid using your windshield wipers until the decal is fully cured (48 hours)

Items that would be helpful in the installation

 Clean Microfiber cloth
Squeegee or a credit card or similar
Cleaning solution (to remove grease and oil from the surface)

Step 1

Choose the application area for your new decal

Figure out where you would like your brand-new decal to go. You may want to use masking tape and a tape measure to make sure it is level and straight, especially if it’s one of our bigger decals.

Step 2

Clean the surface to remove oils and dirt with a microfiber cloth

Clean the application surface with a clean microfiber and isopropyl rubbing alcohol or water, so that the surface is free of dust, dirt, and grime. Please ensure you remove any wax, ceramic coating, or protectors from the surface. Do not use any generic glass cleaner as these can leave residue and cause the decal to peel and bubble. Make sure to dry the surface before you move onto step 2.

Step 3

Reaffirm the backing paper. Ensure the backing paper is secured to the vinyl sticker

Although we do this before sending them it’s a good practice to do it again. Before you rip off the backing paper make sure to squeegee the decal. This can also be done using a microfiber. This ensures that the vinyl is stuck fully to the transfer tape ready for you to install it.

Step 4

Remove the backing paper be sure to avoid getting dust on the adhesive side.

Remove the paper backing by carefully peeling it away from the transparent transfer tape. Your vinyl decal should come off onto the tape. If the decal sticks to the paper backing, we advise using your finger to apply pressure in the problemed area. Some of the smaller letters may be tricky so make sure you take your time.

Step 5

Place the decal, make sure the whole decal and its details makes contact with the surface

Position your decal in your desired location and press down firmly. With your squeegee, work outwards from the center applying even pressure to your decal, ensuring all air bubbles are removed out to the edge.

Step 6

Remove the application tape slowly. Doing so at an angle helps release the decal from the application tape.

Carefully peel the application tape away at an angle, ensuring the decal sticks to the surface. If your decal seems to be sticking to the transfer tape, make sure to use your squeegee or finger to apply pressure to the problem area. You can now throw away any extra material.

Congrats, you now have successfully applied a Superstyle decal (or several). Enjoy!

Information

We advise using this guide to apply your decals, as we cannot issue a refund or replacement due to incorrect use or application. If you feel you are unable to apply your decal, then please contact me (superstyle.nz@gmail.com).

Always apply your decal in a neutral temperature. Do not apply your decal in temperatures too hot, cold, humid, in rain, winds, or heatwaves.
If you have bought any of our special vinyl films (chrome, holographic, reflective, sparkles, glow in the dark) then the vinyl may be a little harder to transfer onto the transfer tape as this vinyl is heavier than normal gloss or matt colours. Please take extra care when fitting those colours.
For XL rear window stickers, please avoid using your wiper blade for the first 48 hours after application, to give the sticker time to bond with the surface.

Removal

To remove your decal you can do either of the following

Peel the decal corner, you should be able to scratch off a corner with your fingernail and be able to lift up each part in one go. Results may vary depending on how long the decal was applied for.
Then follow Step 2 to remove excess residue (if any).

•  For decals on glass, you can use a sharp blade to scrape off the decal. You should peel if it's possible. Then follow Step 2 to remove excess residue (if any).

DO NOT use any thinners or alcohol on painted surfaces as this may damage the paint.
